Circular route from Thusis around Piz Scalottas and down the long singletrail descent from Terziel to Sils i.D.
Details
Description
The route leads from Thusis via Scharans and the Old Schyn Way to Muldain. The Old Schyn is a spectacular medieval trade route carved into the rock face high above the Albula gorge.
From Muldain and Lain, districts of the municipality Vaz-Obervaz, it goes steeply up on paved or cobbled mountain roads to the Alphütta Fops. On alpine paths, it continues over Alp Nova to Plaun da Bots below the Scalottas summit. A detour to Piz Scalottas is well worth it and rewards with a magnificent panoramic view before descending again on a flowing trail past June Hütte to Plaun da Bots, where the well-deserved long descent begins. First follows a rough trail down to Alp Parnegl, requiring highest concentration. It continues to Terziel, where the actual downhill to the Sils power plant begins, making every mountain biker's heart beat faster and compensating for the sweaty effort of the long ascent. Arriving in Sils, it then leisurely returns to Thusis station.
Hidden Gem
Stop at the rustic Alphütta Fops, open in summer, or at the charming June Hütte with a beautiful terrace and breathtaking view.
Safety Note
Physically and technically demanding route with singletrail descent (S3 up to Terziel, from Terziel S2). Pushing sections possible depending on riding skills and weather conditions.
