Description

Day 1: We start in Sedrun with packed snowshoes and hike to the year-round inhabited hamlet of Cavorgia. On a signposted snowshoe trail, it now goes uphill on a snow-covered road with a leisurely incline. As soon as we enter the forest, we are in the wildlife rest zone and we can imagine from the many animal tracks in the snow who is wintering there. In Stagias we get an insight into the neighbouring valley Val Medel with the village of Curaglia, which lies at the foot of a mighty mountain range. We continue along the path to Alp Pazzola, the highest point of the tour. No tree or shrub blocks our deep view of the valley and the view of the mountain panorama. At the alpine huts you will always find a wind-protected place for an extensive rest. We hike back to Stagias on the same route, but then we can also go over the open field to Mutschnengia and lay our own track in the snow. Tired and satisfied, we reach the Hotel Cuntera, where we are warmly welcomed.  (Reservation: info@hotel-cuntera.ch)

Day 2: We wear the snowshoes only briefly until we reach the trail, which leads us on the historic Lukmanier Pass route to Mompé Medel, a small Walser settlement with Bilck on Disentis. During the steep descent to Cuflons, directly to the Rhine, concentration is required. Arriving at the river, only the murmur of the water welcomes us - it is an idyllic place. We start the ascent to Disentis slowly and as soon as we reach the winter hiking trail, we pack our snowshoes and it is not far to the train station Disentis.

Geheimtipp

In Stagias stands the wooden building of the Academia Vivian, on whose stairs you can take a wonderful break. Behind the Hotel Cuntera, a suspension bridge made of larch wood leads over an imposing ravine.

Sicherheitshinweis

Do not leave the signposted route in the wildlife rest zone.

Ausrüstung

Provisions for a picnic. We recommend carrying a topo card or printing the card and taking it with you

Directions

On the access road we reach Cavorgia from Sedrun in about 45 minutes. From here, the trail is signposted in pink. We follow the route towards Stagias. At the first junction we keep the direction and the route makes a longer loop into a small valley. We now reach a clearing with a few corn wets. Shortly afterwards there is a turnoff. Here we keep to the right and we stay on the way to Stagias. At the crossroads we keep right and follow the signs for Alp Pazzola. On the same way back to Stagias. Then the route leads over a snow-covered road to Mutschnengia. After the village we walk on the access road until we reach the signaling for the snowshoe trail on the left side of the road. At first it is a snow-covered dirt road, later we follow the hiking trail. Shortly after the memorial plaque to the historic path, the path climbs to the left and leads us out to the forest to a toboggan run. For a few minutes we hike on or next to this path. Then the signaling points us over a back to Mompé Medel. At the chapel we find the turnoff down to Cuflons. We cross the bridge, there is a climb to the winter hiking trail towards Disentis.
