The ridge between Valposchiavo and the neighboring Poschiavina Valley offers magnificent views of both valleys. The starting point for hiking in the rocky wilderness of the border area is the village of Selva.
Details
Description
This hike offers an impressive variety of vegetation levels, ranging from the green pastures of Alp Quadrada to sparsely vegetated scree to the wilderness of the Alps, with sparse lichens on imposing stone slabs. The lower part is dominated by open terrain, the intermediate sections traverse pleasantly shaded mountain forest and, at the top, a magnificent rocky landscape.
The tour reaches an impressive turn at the Pass da Cancian. Crossing the national border offers fabulous views of the lower part of Valposchiavo and the nearby Poschiavina Valley. From there, a ridge trail leads to Passo d'Ur, on the ridge between the two valleys. On both passes is a small mountain lake in which the surrounding peaks are reflected. A third small lake, Laghet d'Ur, is encountered on the descent to Quadrada.
Hidden Gem
The hike can be shortened by two hours by starting higher up on Alp Quadrada (reachable only by private car or cab).
Directions
The trail is marked as a mountain hiking trail (white-red-white, difficulty level T3). The starting and ending point is the Li Curt/Selva bus stop (caution: bus on call - book at least 1 hour before departure). This is a long but not too strenuous mountain hike due to moderate gradients.
