The ridge between the Poschiavo Valley and the nearby Poschiavina Valley offers a magnificent view of both valleys. The starting point for the hike in the wild and rocky nature of the border area is the village of Selva.
Details
Description
This hike offers an impressive variety of vegetation levels: from the green pastures of Alp Quadrada to the sparsely vegetated scree, to the wild nature of the Alps, with sparse lichens on imposing stone slabs. The lower part is dominated by open terrain, the intermediate sections lead through pleasantly shaded mountain forest and, at the top, a magnificent rocky landscape.
The tour reaches an impressive turn at the Pass da Cancian. The crossing of the national border offers a fabulous view of the lower part of the Poschiavo Valley and the nearby Poschiavina Valley. From there, a ridge path leads to the Passo d'your, on the ridge between the two valleys. On both passes there is a small mountain lake in which the surrounding peaks are reflected. A third lake, the Laghet d'your, is encountered on the descent to Quadrada.
Hidden Gem
The hike can be shortened by two hours by starting higher up, on Alp Quadrada (reachable only by private car or taxi).
Directions
The route is marked as a mountain hiking trail (white-red-white, difficulty level T3). The starting and finishing point is the Li Curt/Selva postbus stop (attention: bus on call - book at least 1 hour before departure). It is a long but not too strenuous mountain hike, thanks to the moderate slopes.
