Description
Our region has two great treasures: culture and nature. Two treasures to be enhanced, made known and appreciated by those who live in these areas and those who come to visit us. This, in summary, is the purpose of the Culture and Nature trail between Mesocco and Soazza.
San Bernardino is historically one of the most important passes of the Central Alps. Over the millennia it has seen a continuous passage of people, animals, plants and artifacts. A movement that could not fail to leave traces or establish presences that still characterize Mesolcina and Calanca.
In the area of the Mesocco Castle the valley narrows to a funnel, concentrating in a small space not only the Moesa river and the routes that have succeeded one another over time, but also the artifacts relating to more than a hundred centuries of history. A density and time span that in the Alps is the prerogative of only a few other places.
The educational trail Culture and Nature consists of a circuit that starts at the historically most interesting point, the parking lots in front of the Castle, crosses the Via San Bernardino following it for a short stretch and then extends along the western slope up to the Mont Grand area in Soazza. From the Circola Cultural Center in Soazza, the two paths will rejoin again to reach the Castle area.
Available at the tourist office in San Bernardino, a descriptive brochure of the peculiarities of the thematic route.
