Description
Motorized private transport is taboo in Val da Camp. At the beginning of the valley, near the PostBus stop, there is a no-entry sign from which only agricultural vehicles and small PostBuses that can handle the steep gravel road are exempt. Traffic on the dirt road is limited – this alone makes the valley a paradise for hikers.
Despite this, locals advise against discovering the valley in this simple way because there is a better one. The best route in the area is a simple circular hike, suitable even for families with children. The starting point is Alp Camp, the last stop of the PostBus line. Due to the limited number of seats available on the PostBus, it is absolutely necessary to book a seat in advance.
Over the millennia, landslides have filled the valley in several places, causing mountain streams to turn into lakes behind these escarpments. Most of these can be reached by trails. A true gem is the Lagh da Saoseo. It is praised as one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland, if not in the entire Alpine range. From afar, the water sparkles with cobalt blue, but when you approach the shore, it is so clear that you can almost distinguish every single stone on the bottom.
Although there are grilling spots on the shore, it is recommended to postpone the snack a bit, as the next part of the hike consists of a fairly steep climb of 200 meters.
Initially, you proceed through the forest, then above it. Finally, you reach Lagh da Viola. Above the turquoise mirror of the lake, you can admire the view up to the southern slope of Piz Palü. The slope on the east shore of Lake Viola is quite steep, so access to the water is quite difficult. Therefore, it is worth walking around half the lake and then relaxing on the wide flat pasture. At the mouth of the alpine stream, you can play pleasantly, build dams, and splash in the water. An easy descent leads back to Alp Camp.
