Details

Description

At over 2000 meters above sea level, there is a small museum about these old mines. Over a high moor, the path leads via small alpine pasture settlements in Walser style back to the starting point.

Hidden Gem

A visit to the famous Church of St. Martin Zillis is worthwhile. It is also known as the Sistine Chapel of the Alps.

Safety Note

From Alp Taspegn to the alpine pasture Bavugls, there are only partial trails through a beautiful high moor landscape. High surefootedness is required here.

Equipment

Trailrunning shoes, backpack with drink (water or energy drink), food (bars, gels), wind jacket, mobile phone, and emergency kit. Poles are recommended for the long ascent.

Directions

Zillis – Plan Tischatscha – Plan Palé – Bavugls – Zillis

Starting at the municipal office, the hiking trail leads towards Reischen. Shortly after the start, the ascent to Alp Taspegn begins on the right. Over about 7 kilometers, the road climbs about 1200 meters in a steady incline. After Alp Taspegn, the trail crosses the stream on the right and continues up to Plan Pale, where the highest point of the route is reached. At the feet lies the Schamser valley over which the Piz Beverin towers, and behind you is the Piz Curvér. After the return over the alpine meadows, you pass the idyllic alpine pasture Bavugls and continue following the hiking trail until just below Selvera, where you take the branch towards Pignia. This singletrail leads through beautiful forest patches and ends just above Pigna. Just before reaching Pignia, the trail turns right towards Zillis back to the starting point.
