Gletscherlehrpfad mit Silvrettahütte
An impressive educational trail was set up in 2007 to teach people about this wild glacier landscape. The circular route, which heads into the forefield of the glacier, features 15 information panels providing interesting facts and figures about climate change and an alpine landscape in constant change. The starting point is the Silvretta Mountain Hut at a height of 2,341 metres. If the climb from Klosters is too far, it is also possible to take the bus taxi (Gotschna taxi) to Alp Sardasca, shortening the climb to the mountain hut. This description starts from Alp Sardasca.

Description

The educational Silvretta Glacier Trail winds its way over some four kilometres across the forefield of the Silvretta Glacier. En route, you will climb approximately 300 metres in altitude. Yellow-and-blue signposts show the way. 15 information panels are positioned along the circular route, which provide information and diagrams about local features, but also demonstrate the correlations between climate warming, the role of humans etc.

The circular hiking route described here follows the old mule track to climb up to the Silvretta Mountain Hut, takes the circular Glacier Trail and then descends back to the Alp through the breathtakingly beautiful Galtürtälli valley.

Geheimtipp

Let's face it, kids. Have you ever seen a glacier? Or do you know what glacier milk is? The glacier trail is especially interesting for you, because the walking distance is not far, and yet there is a lot to experience! For example, you can read about how snow turns into ice, find your way through the stone labyrinth or observe marmots. So don't forget to take binoculars with you.

If the tour from Alp Sardasca via the glacier trail is too long for you, we recommend spending the night in the Silvretta Hut: On day 1, a leisurely ascent to the hut and a swim in the mountain lake (5 min. above the Silvretta hut), on day 2, a tour of the glacier nature trail and descent back to Alp Sardasca or Klosters.

The Silvretta hut is also a wonderfully located place to stop for refreshments.

Sicherheitshinweis

Large parts of the Glacier Trail may still lie under winter snow at the start of the summer. Hiking is only advisable after several thaws (normally from around the end of June). Check on snow conditions in the Silvretta Mountain Hut.

Ausrüstung

The ascent and descent from the mountain hut and the educational Glacier Trail are mountain trails. As such, we recommend sturdy walking boots and a rain jacket etc.

Directions

Ascent to the Silvretta Mountain Hut: 2 hours from Alp Sardasca along the direct path to the mountain hut.

2. Educational Glacier Loop: approx. 2-3 hours, depending on how fast you walk and how many breaks you take.

3. Descent through the Galtürtälli valley back to Sardasca: 1 h 45 min

The descent through the Galtürtälli valley branches off from the circular route just before the end of the educational Glacier Trail (above the Silvretta Mountain Hut). An alternative route follows the circular route back to the mountain hut and then descends along the direct route from the mountain hut (identical to the ascent). The Galtürtälli valley route is really worth considering on account of its beautiful flora, panoramic views and beautiful afternoon sun!
