Description
From Ilanz (699 m above sea level), you go on an asphalt road with a steep climb to Ruschein (1166 m above sea level). The view from Ruschein over Ilanz into the Valser valley is a first highlight of the route. In Ruschein, you join the Graubünden Bike Route No. 90 and cross to Siat. Steep ramps alternate with relaxing flat sections. In Siat, several fountains invite you to fill your water bottles. The view of the Obersaxen plateau makes you forget the burning legs. The road continues to climb up to Darpagaus (1494 m above sea level) before you descend rapidly into the side valley "Val da Pigniu." The ascent towards Pigniu and up to the Lag da Pigniu reservoir (1447 m above sea level) is easy to manage. The rock face with impressive waterfalls at the far end of the lake is so impressive that the detour to the very end of the gravel road is definitely worth it. The route now leads back only a few hundred meters on the road before you turn right following MTB Route 90. On the other side of the river, a natural road first, then a short intermezzo through forest and meadows, takes you to Andiast. From Andiast you follow the main road for a short time to Waltensburg (1003 m above sea level). The church in Waltensburg fascinates inside with fantastic paintings and is definitely worth a stop. A gravel road with a panoramic view and an impressive rock tunnel takes you to Brigels (1290 m above sea level).
