Description
The starting point is the mountain pass village of Splügen at 1457 m above sea level. We leave the village and follow the historic transit route of the viaSpluga up to the Bodmastafel. Here, the trail continuously ascends along the right side of the valley on the mountain flank through the Rhäzüns Alps. Where the view opens down the valley towards Schamsertal, a mountain path leads up to the high plateau of the Surettaseen. The mountain hut is located at the upper Surettasee at 2272 m above sea level but is not catered. Here, visitors find a soothing, quiet atmosphere amidst a very rocky mountain world. When the surrounding peaks, starting from Seehorn up to Surettahorn, are reflected in the lake, the excursion becomes an unforgettable experience.
The descent starts along the same path for the first 200 meters in altitude, then follows the path downhill towards Franzisch Grind. Before passing through the Fugschtwald towards Splügen village, you can enjoy the fantastic view of the Rheinwald once again.
In the old part of Splügen village, with its magnificent houses, those interested in folklore can find many treasures. A visit to the Rheinwald valley museum and the reformed baroque church should not be missed.
Hidden Gem
At the upper Surettasee, hikers have access to a rowboat that may be used at their own risk.
Mountain Hut
