Description
From Thusis, the route leads through the imposing Viamala Gorge into the lovely Val Schons, past Zillis and Andeer and on along the Roffla Gorge into the Rheinwald to Splügen. Over the Splügen Pass we reach the Mediterranean Chiavenna at an altitude of 333 m above sea level. On the Splügen Pass we cross the Italian border. From Chiavenna we head eastwards up into the deeply incised Bergell valley towards Castasegna, where we return to Swiss soil. The route climbs steadily via Vicosoprano and Casaccia to Maloja. Once we reach the Maloja Pass, the Maloja wind at our backs, we ride relaxed along Lake Sils to Silvaplana. Over the Julier Pass at an altitude of 2,284 m above sea level. We reach Bivio and continue along the Marmorera reservoir via Mulegns, Tiniziong and Savognin to Tiefencastel. After a final ascent from Tiefencastel to Alvaschein, the route follows the Schin Gorge out of the valley back to Thusis.
