Description
For most inhabitants of Bergell, the name Albigna recalls the large dam wall and reservoir that significantly changed the appearance of this Bergell side valley. Originally, the shelter stood at the site now occupied by the large dam. In 1956, it was rebuilt in a beautiful location on a ridge above the lake. From the dam to the hut, it is a little more than a half-hour walk.
If you want to start on foot from the valley, go shortly above the cable car to the right into the forest. After a short time, you reach a forest road, which you follow to the bridge over the Albigna. From here, the route leads on a footpath over the Motta Ciürela and from there on the ridge above the Albigna up to the dam.
Hidden Gem
Take the cable car up in the morning, enjoy the day with routes around the hut, and walk down to the valley on foot in the evening.
Equipment
Hiking boots, trekking poles

The ascent on the mountain railway alone is quite exciting and offers a wide view of the Bergell. Once you have crossed the deep abyss of the Sasc Prümaveira, your gaze wanders over the walls of the Piz Balzet, which tower above the terrifying rock face at the entrance to the valley. From the mountain station, you climb on the right edge of the dam, where the lake soon appears and the view opens over the whole basin. The shelter on the left side is clearly visible.
You then walk over the dam to the meadows on the other side. Here begins a marked path that leads in a long, sloping ascent to the Albigna hut (2336 m).

From the hut, various interesting hikes can be undertaken. A recommended extension of our trip would be to follow the path to the Pass da Casnil up to a beautiful plateau in front of the Piz Balzet (45 min from the hut). There, at a few water pools, you have a great view of all the mountains of the valley, especially the north face of the Cima dal Cantun. On the descent, continue at the mountain station and come to a flat narrow road - once used by vehicles brought up from the valley by a larger, more powerful cable car. You pass the foot of the Spazzacaldeira wall, where there are countless climbing routes. The path leads around the deep crevice at the Sasc Prümaveira and descends on wide slopes through the larch forest. A last section between tall trunks runs over a not very steep shoulder and to the footbridge over the Albigna stream. A forest road takes us back not far from Pranzaira to the main road of Bergell.
