Trans Grischun: Oberalp Pass - Obersaxen (Stage 1)

The start of this gravel bike route is the Oberalp Pass, which is near the source of the Vorderrhein. The well-known river also accompanies the first section of the path. The route initially leads you from the pass height along the paved road. After a short time, you turn onto the old pass road, where you feel the first gravel under the tires of your gravel bike. The path soon narrows into a flowing single trail. In Selva, you leave the main road and reach Sedrun via the Graubünden Bike Route 90. Here, a small detour into the village is worthwhile to strengthen yourself with the smallest nut cake in the world at "La Conditoria." Via Surrein, you reach Uaul Cavorgia and continue to the rustic mountain village Mumpé Medel. From here, you enjoy a wonderful view down to Disentis. The impressive Benedictine monastery has shaped the place since the 13th century.

From Disentis, you follow the official Rhine bike route no. 2 before the Trans Grischun route leads up to the plateau of Obersaxen. The area was settled by the Walser and is therefore a Swiss German language island in the middle of the Surselva, where Romansh is spoken. Shortly after Friggahüs, you can let the first stage roll down gently (patgific) to Obersaxen Meierhof and enjoy the impressive view into the Surselva.

The Trans Grischun regularly passes through inhabited areas, so you will repeatedly find accommodation options and can adapt the stages to your needs.

From Oberalp Pass along the pass road, then turn onto a wide hiking trail. In Tschamut, back onto the pass road for a short distance, then turn to Selva and all downhill on the right side of the Rhine. In Fontanivas, a short change to the left side of the river, then all back to the right via Cavardiras, Pardomat, Surrein, Zignau, and St. Martin to Obersaxen Meierhof.
