Varied circular route between Waltensburg and Rueun. A discovery hike to three beautifully located castle ruins.
Details
Description
The Jörgenberg ruin is located on the outermost rock spur of a long ridge east of Waltensburg. Jörgenberg was one of the originally four castles in Waltensburg, alongside Kropfenstein, Grünenfels Castle, and Vogelberg Castle, and was already inhabited in the middle Bronze Age. Jörgenberg is first mentioned in 765 in Bishop Tello's testament as castellum. The technically easy circular hike lies on the sunny side of the Surselva and is often already passable in spring.
