Details
Description
From 17 February 2025, a section will be impassable due to construction work. A detour is signposted.
We leave Sedrun at the station on little used residential streets. With the sun on our faces, we hike to Camischolas-Sura and below the railway line to the station in Rueras. The seating at the little station house is sheltered from the wind and very popular with sun seekers. Ideal for a "Paterlada." We then circle the village of Rueras in a loop and descend to the valley bottom, very close to the Rhine. The Camping Viva restaurant is also open in winter and has a sunny terrace and a cozy guest room with a wood stove.
Along the cross-country ski trail we continue to the power station and on the other side of the Rhine through the Uaul Surrein to Surrein. This is part of the NEAT path, where we can learn some humorous insights about the NEAT construction period at various stations. Via the access road to Cavorgia and residential streets we return to the station.
Information: In midwinter, the section in the valley is still in the shade, but from mid-January it becomes sunnier.
Hidden Gem
Good hiking even in the shade or with light snowfall!
The route can be shortened at the power station.
Safety Note
The residential and side streets are mostly free of snow
Directions
From the station, we hike westwards to the Strem Bach. Here we turn right and reach the winter hiking trail below the railway line after the last houses until Rueras. Now we follow the driving road towards the village, but turn right again at the first opportunity. As soon as the road ends, we can switch to a hiking trail for a stretch. With a view of the church, the path now leads into the village. Before the church, we turn right, at the Giossi stable left again and thus reach the Camping Viva restaurant. Further along the trail to the power station where we cross to the other side of the river. Through the forest uphill to Surrein. Before the village, we take the narrow path past the chapel. Then on the road back to Sedrun.
