Description

Varied half-day hike to Peil and from there back to Vals via the Peilerstrasse. Variant: From Peil over the Peilerhöfe to the Peilerstrasse. Return on this to Vals.

Hidden Gem

Geissalp Peil: In the afternoon between around 4 and 5 pm the goats return to the Geissalp (June to September).

Equipment

Solid, rainproof, warm clothing. Robust mountain or trekking shoes. Gloves, hat, sun protection. Hiking poles, food and drinks from the backpack, first aid kit, topographic map, altimeter, compass, mobile phone, flashlight.

Directions

From the square, up the alley. Keep left at the Hotel Valserhof. In the first curve, follow the Güterstrasse to the right, past the Rongg Chapel. Then turn right and cross the Illagrassteg to the Peilerstrasse. Follow the Peilerstrasse to Inder Peil. Opportunity to stop at the Kiosk Peil in nice weather. Opening hours as posted. Return from Peil to Vals via the Peilerstrasse. (Variant: From Peil, coming onto the Peilerstrasse later via the Peilerhöfe. Past the farms Hofli, Furrahus, Chappelihus, and Bodahus and through the forest to the Peilerstrasse.) Back to Vals on the Peilerstrasse. At first in the sun, then through the forest. Initially next to the Peiler stream, later above it. (At Bord, there is the possibility to shorten the way by taking the very steep meadow path from Bord to Balma to Vals.) Otherwise, follow the Peilerstrasse to Gross Cheer, where the Peilerstrasse meets the Zerfreilastrasse. From there continue to Vals.
