Description
The Via Engiadina begins in the vacation village of Maloja on the Alpine pass of the same name, on the border with the pristine Bergell valley. "Panoramic" - this description certainly applies to all stages of this high-altitude hiking trail, but hikers can always expect some particularly beautiful moments as they climb past the hamlet of Pila and the settlement of Blaunca and enjoy the spectacular view over the Engadin lake landscape. Allow yourself to be overwhelmed by this beauty and take a break on the steadily ascending paths to really enjoy the view.
The idyllic route continues when you reach the pretty moorland village of Grevasalvas above Plaun da Lej, the famous location of the 1978 Heidi film. The Via Engiadina now leads you up and down and sometimes zigzags towards Sils. Can you see the valley incision on the opposite slope? There lies the picturesque Val Fex, a wonderfully dreamy hiking paradise.
Now tackle one last uphill stretch and you have reached the first stage destination: Silvaplana on the beautiful Lake Silvaplana, where dozens of kitesurfers cavort over the waves, their colorful sails resembling a swarm of butterflies from afar.

Before you leave Maloja behind, you should definitely follow in the footsteps of the painter Giovanni Segantini, whose life and work are inextricably linked to the village.
