Description
The starting point of the Via Engiadina is the holiday village Maloja at the Alpine pass of the same name, on the border to the primal Bergell. "Scenic" - this description certainly fits all stages of this high-altitude hiking trail, but the hiker is always rewarded with particularly beautiful moments when the spectacular view of the Engadine lake landscape opens up on the ascent past the hamlet Pila and the settlement Blaunca. Let yourself be overwhelmed by this beauty and take a break on the steadily ascending paths to fully enjoy the view.
Idyllically it continues when you reach the pretty Heididorf Grevasalvas above Plaun da Lej, the famous filming location of the 1978 Heidi film. Up and down and sometimes in zigzag, the Via Engiadina now leads you towards Sils. Do you see the valley incision on the opposite slope? There lies the picturesque Val Fex, a wonderfully dreamy hiking paradise.
Now overcome one last ascending section and the first stage destination is reached: Silvaplana at the beautiful Lake Silvaplana, over whose waves dozens of kitesurfers swarm, which from afar with their colorful sails resemble a swarm of butterflies.

Before you leave Maloja behind, be sure to walk a little in the footsteps of the painter Giovanni Segantini, whose life and work are inseparably connected with the village.
