Description

From the Ardez train station, the route heads north to the main road and follows it eastward to the edge of the village. Here the path turns left and goes across the field, passing the schoolhouse on the right and through two curves to the junction towards Chanoua. Already here, looking back offers an impressive view of the castle ruins above the roofs of Ardez into the Val Sampuoir and towards Sur En on the opposite valley side. From here the path steadily climbs to the ruins of the Chanoua sustainer/drover station, where a short break with an uphill view is worthwhile. A few meters further, looking east one can see the proud Tarasp castle and the hamlets of the village on the right side of the Inn. The path then follows for about 2 km along the road and turns right into the forest at the viewing spot in front of Hotel Paradies, passing the hotel and the old mill to the Nügla hill on the southwestern edge of Ftan. After passing Ftan with its typical village squares and proud Engadin houses, the path steadily descends gently to Scuol, the stage's endpoint.

Hidden Gem

If time permits, a short detour to the castle hill of the Steinsberg ruins in Ardez is recommended. Or in Ftan, visit the toboggan run of the Ftan-Prui chairlift.
