Via Mundaun: Stage 2

The day starts leisurely: From Meierhof, the second part of Via Mundaun leads through quiet villages, via Affeier to Misanenga. Time and again, chapels, old barns, and typical Walser houses invite you to marvel and pause.

After about an hour, it's time to bid farewell to civilization; snow and nature take over the main role. The path gradually ascends, Cuolm Sura coming closer step by step. Part of the route passes through the ski area, but the hustle and bustle remains distant.

If desired, take a break at Kafi/Atelier Bündner Rigi before continuing to the Chapel Sogn Carli. It was probably built in the 17th century and stands on a clearing on the eastern slope of Piz Mundaun. The view into the distance is impressive as well: It stretches far over the Surselva to Chur, framed by the impressive mountain backdrop of Lumnezia.

The descent into the valley begins. Via Morissen, the path leads to Vella, where the landscape shows its sunny side: The slopes of the Lumnezia are known for their mild climate. The Surselva side valley is not without reason also known as the "Valley of Light." Even in winter, when snow lies elsewhere, the first green patches appear here. But this does not detract from the mood, because at the stage destination Vella, the last rays of sunshine after a long hiking day can be all the more enjoyed — whether on a terrace with a drink or during a stroll through the village. The place impresses with its historic architecture, including the imposing plague chapel from 1587 and the Catholic church with valuable paintings.

Luggage Transport via Mundaun

Day 1: Arrival and First Stage

Arrival the day before: Overnight stay at Hotel Central, Obersaxen.

Arrival on the tour day: Bus ride to Meierhof Post, where luggage can be stored at Hotel Central. Afterwards, continue by bus to Obersaxen, Friggahüs.

Day 2: From Obersaxen to Vella

Luggage can be left at Hotel Central and will be transported to one of the booked hotels in Vella (Lumnezia).

If luggage transport is desired, it must be registered directly at Hotel Central.

⚠️ Important: A room reservation at Hotel Central does not automatically include luggage transport. This must be booked separately upon request at Hotel Central.

Costs: CHF 45.00 surcharge for luggage transport

On the following dates, luggage transport is not possible:

Day 3: Last Stage

Luggage can be left at the hotel in Vella and will be picked up again after the tour.

Those who depart only the following day can leave luggage at the hotel and enjoy a relaxing stay with an additional overnight.
