Description

Our daily goal is Monte Spluga 1905 m a.s.l. on the other side of the Splügen Pass

This classic ski tour is an impressive pass crossing that connects the Swiss Rheinwald with the Italian Valchiavenna. It starts in the historic pass village of Splügen (1457 m a.s.l.) and takes you into the high alpine mountain world of the Splügen Pass. To reach this goal, we have the choice: either ambitiously over a summit or with the help of the ski lift over the pass road over the Passo dello Spluga 2114 m a.s.l.

The ascent follows the historic route of the pass southwards. First, you gain altitude through open forest sections before the terrain dramatically opens up and you enter the expanse of the pass landscape.

Safety Note

The ski and snowshoe routes should be understood as general directional indications. Depending on conditions, ascent and descent routes must be adapted. Traversing routes in alpine terrain requires good fitness, serious preparation, and technical knowledge in mountaineering. The use of the described routes is at your own risk. For safe mountain sports, Viamala Tourism recommends training under expert supervision or a guided ski tour with trained mountain guides.
