Description
The starting point of this classic ski tour in the Beverin Nature Park is the mountain village of Wergenstein at 1487 m above sea level. With a view of the Val Schons, we begin the ascent over open, sun-drenched slopes and light forest sections.
The route to the Cufercalhütte is physically demanding but without major technical difficulties. With about 900 to 1000 meters of ascent and a walking time of approx. 3.5 to 4.5 hours, it is a medium-difficulty day tour.
Depending on snow and avalanche conditions, the mountain guides choose the optimal route into the high alpine silence:
- Normal route via Alp Nurdagn (WS – Slightly Difficult): The steady ascent over the slopes above Dumagns and Nurdagn is the most commonly chosen and more direct access route to the hut.
- Sporty variant via the Gelbhorn (ZS – Quite Difficult): For physically strong participants, there is the possibility to include the challenging Gelbhorn (Piz Mellen, 3036 m) in the tour. This variant is rated as ZS and requires very good fitness (over 1500 m altitude gain) and safe conditions.
After reaching the upper high valley, often marked by the distinctive Lai Pintg, follows the final ascent to the Cufercalhütte SAC at 2385 m above sea level. It is located on a beautiful meadow terrace at the southern foot of the Piz Calandari and offers a magnificent view of the Piz Tambo after the ascent.
Safety Note
A ski tour in high alpine terrain requires well-founded knowledge in handling avalanche emergency equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe) and observing the current avalanche bulletin.
The ski and snowshoe routes are intended as general directional indications. Depending on conditions, ascent and descent routes must be adjusted. Traversing routes in alpine terrain requires good fitness, serious preparation, and technical mountaineering knowledge. Traversing the described routes is done at your own risk.
