Description

The route starts in Thusis at the Marktwiese car park. After a few meters you leave the paved road and from then on move on varied trails. Past Ehrenfels Castle, the route climbs in the direction of Crap Carschenna, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire Domleschg. After a short descent, you move in the Viamala Gorge on a narrow single trail with a view down into the impressive gorge. Concentrated running is necessary here, because the path is easy to walk, but somewhat exposed. This is soon followed by the Traversinersteg, a staircase hanging about 70 meters above the ground. In the gorge you continue to follow the Rhine before changing direction and walking back towards Thusis on the other side of the river. Via Rongellen and Crapteig you then reach the starting point via a steep and technically demanding downhill.

Geheimtipp

It is worth stopping at the visitor center in the heart of the Viamala Gorge . In Thusis there are various places to stop for refreshments.

Take the train or PostBus to Thusis. The tour can be started directly from Thusis train station. Further information can be found in the SBB online timetable.

Narrow and straightforward, this bridge is part of the hiking trail network - for once not over the abyss of the Viamala, but directly over the Rhine, which rests here in a shimmering blue bay before plunging further through the gorge.
