Description
The chapel is open daily.
Its tower from 1690 with its strikingly large clock face (2) and painted ashlars marks the center of the hamlet.
The three rococo altars in the choir (3) were consecrated shortly after the new building was completed in 1700. The half-length figure of the church's patron saint stands on a blue background in the high altar. St. Nicholas as bishop carries the Bible with the three golden balls on it in his hand (4). The Annunciation scene is almost overlooked: On the far left is the panel with the kneeling Mary (5), on the far right appears the angel Gabriel (6); an original solution.
The pulpit from 1630 is just as original (7). Where else in the canton do herms (pillars with an attached head and shoulder) adorn the corpus? Between them are the four evangelists as half-figures on a blue background.
In the vestibule, note the coat of arms on the left-hand side, which was given to the Surinians by Bishop Christianus Caminada.
