Description

On the castle hill stands the ruin of the medieval knight’s fortress, built around 1220 by the Lords of Flums on the crap long – the “long rock”. After passing through the hands of several feudal lords, the castle fell to Zurich in 1419. In 1440, it was destroyed by troops from Glarus and Schwyz. In 1528, Ludwig Tschudi purchased the fortress, which, after a period of intensive construction, had to be sold again in 1767 due to financial difficulties. Several further owners followed until, in 1804, the neglected castle was sold for demolition. In 1923, the municipality of Flums acquired the ruin, restored it, and has maintained it ever since.

That not all the lords of the castle were noble rulers is shown by the legends Castle Gräpplang and The Evil Lord of the Castle. Both tell of a tyrant who exploited his subjects. Step into the carefully restored ruin and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of times gone by. The walls and inserted stairways provide a vivid impression of the medieval stronghold. Enjoy the view from the large upper chamber. Here you will discover a place of power, whose energetic qualities make it suitable as a sacred site. For the castle’s former inhabitants, however, the intensity of the location may well have been overwhelming. Should one of the evil lords have feasted or even slept here, it is easy to imagine how his imbalance grew into tyranny.

At the fireplace in the former courtyard, you will find yet another powerful spot with the qualities of a sacred place. The intensity of its energies is considerably stronger than in the rest of the castle. Archaeological finds confirm that this site was frequented long before settlement, dating back to the Neolithic period.
