The village of Cunter (until 1943 German Conters in Oberhalbstein) lies on the right side of the valley along the Julierstrasse at an altitude of almost 1200 m.

The Rätia Ampla castle in Riom is the largest in the district of Surses. After the fire in the village in 1864 the wood of the fort was used for reconstruction. The former bishop's castle, built in 1227, can be viewed from the outside.
