Festa del Pan Ner

The Festa del Pan Ner, an international initiative of the Aosta Valley Region, the Lombardy Region and the Polo Poschiavo, is taking place for the eleventh time and is now celebrated by over 100 Alpine regions in Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia and France. After Valais in 2025, another partner from Graubünden will be added this year, the Tarasp mill.
The event unites regions and generations from the entire Alpine arc around rye bread. In Puschlav, the focus is on the traditional brasciadèla, a ring bread with anise.

Bread and wood 100% Valposchiavo

On Saturday, October 17, 2026, Casa Tomé in Poschiavo will be dedicated to the knowledge that is still relevant today, which contributes to the authenticity of Valposchiavo. The historic wood-fired oven in Casa Tomé will be fired, and you can watch how practiced hands shape and bake the ring loaves. This year, the irresistible scent of brasciadèli will be joined by the harmonious smell of local wood. Carpenters and marquetry cutters will show the artisanal production of furniture according to traditional methods - this is also the case as part of a current exhibition at Punto Rosso on the topic of "Wood 100% Valposchiavo".

The Musei Valposchiavo, in cooperation with the Polo Poschiavo, invite the local population and holidaymakers to experience this traditional craft. You can exchange ideas with the craftsmen, buy freshly baked rye bread, enjoy a simple snack and feel the traditions of our community together.

Intangible knowledge makes a region extraordinary

The Festa del Pan Ner was born with the intention of preserving the best practices of the intangible cultural heritage: an opportunity to rediscover and maintain in the community ancient traditions related to rye bread. The festival throughout the Alpine region strengthens and honours the role of the people who continue to practice, pass on and preserve the ancient craft for the community.
The "Wood 100% Valposchiavo" project was launched in 2024 with the aim of establishing a local value chain. Among the successes already achieved are the documentation of the current situation, a market study of local products, the development of semi-finished products, a training course in collaboration with the Poschiavo vocational school and the possibility of certifying wood products with the "100 Valposchiavo" label.
An exhibition from 8 to 17 October at Punto Rosso in Poschiavo will show pieces of furniture and other wooden objects that attempt to combine the traditions of Valposchiavo with modernity. The "Wood 100% Valposchiavo" project, coordinated by Polo Poschiavo and supported by the Bernina region, is funded by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) as part of the Wood Action Plan. The aim is to promote Swiss wood and establish corresponding value chains.
As part of the "Festa del Pan Ner", the Musei Valposchiavo will give space to local woodworking and will show some objects that have inspired the craftsmen to create some new products with the label "100% Valposchiavo wood".
