In Lugnez, it is a rarity for Rhaeto-Romanic and Walser people to perform together on the concert stage. This year, however, it is the case and you can look forward to a concert that unites the singing traditions of two neighboring communities with different characteristics. For this musical meeting, conductor Retus Giger (viril Lumnezia choir) and conductor Manuela Schmid (Zervreila Vals yodelling choir) have put together an attractive program with beautiful traditional songs, complemented by new compositions.
The viril Lumnezia choir revives old folk songs composed or arranged by the Lugnez composers Gion Luregn Arpagaus, Gion Giusep Derungs (1905), Gion Giusep Derungs (1932) and Gion Antoni Derungs, and performs new compositions or world premieres by Armin Caduff and Carli Scherrer. The Romansh productions are rounded off by an Italian song by Paolo Bon and a French song by H. Plumhof. The texts of the Romansh songs were written by F. Derungs, Barclamiu Pelican, Gion Cadieli, Conradin Giger, Gion Giusep Derungs 05.
Yodeling is very popular among the Walser people in the Valsertal.
The traditional songs, performed exclusively in dialect, pay homage to Swiss folk music composers The productions of the Zervreila Vals Yodelling Choir pay homage to Swiss folk music composers such as Hanny Schenker-Brecht, Hans W. Schneller, Hannes Fuhrer, Sep Herger, Jörg Röthlisberger, Hans W. Schneller and Ruedi Bieri.
Together, the two formations interpret the songs "S'Plange" by T. Aeberhard-Häusler and the arrangement "Miu cor" by Alexi Nay, based on a Ticino folk melody.
From time immemorial, Lugnez and Vals together formed the high court and the district of Lumnezia/Lugnez. However, with the abolition of the district and the rural municipality, contacts have faded in recent years. At the bar after the concert, there will be an opportunity to refresh and deepen contacts between the Lugnez Romansh and the German-speaking Walser.
