Event Prättigau
Gemischter Chor der EMS Schiers
Orchestra Camerata Cantabile
Description
Seat reservations are not possible.
When the mixed choir of the EMS Schiers takes to the stage in spring, there is a long way behind it with intensive rehearsals. For months, singers from the region and students of the EMS Schiers have been working on two major works of choral literature.
On April 11 and 12, they will perform it for the first time under the direction of Christof Brunner and Nicolas Plain. The two took over the musical direction from Martin Zimmermann in 2025 and are committed to continuing the choir's work at EMS Schiers.
The programme includes two impressive works: the Cecilia Mass by Charles Gounod and the Magnificat by John Rutter. Gounod's Mass is one of the most famous sacred works of French Romanticism. Sonorous choral movements, lyrical solo passages and great orchestral moments give it a special musical power. An exciting contrast to this is Rutter's Magnificat – a colourful and rhythmically lively work that combines traditional forms with modern timbres.
A special feature of this concert project is the cross-generational music-making. Singers from the region have been meeting at the EMS Schiers for decades to rehearse great choral works together. Pupils of the middle school rehearse the same works at the same time and finally perform together with the Talchor in the large choir. This creates a musical togetherness that connects school and region and shapes the choral tradition at EMS Schiers.
The choir is accompanied by the orchestra Camerata Cantabile. The soloists are Nuria Richner (soprano), Emanuel Heitz (tenor) and Christophe Baud (baritone). All three are closely connected to EMS Schiers - whether as former students or as current teachers.
