Event Valposchiavo
Guided tours of the chestnut groves and lunch in Brusio
Description
In days gone by, chestnuts were an important staple food that sustained the people of the valley throughout the long winter months, and thus played a central role in rural society.
The chestnut trees in the Brusio area once belonged to patrician families and were passed down from generation to generation.
During the ‘Settimana della castagna’, some of these owners will guide you through the groves, allowing you to discover the history and unique local characteristics of the area. Chestnut trees are impressive witnesses to the passage of time. Preserving them is a labour-intensive undertaking to which the chestnut growers of Brusio have committed themselves.
In the chestnut groves, you’ll have the chance to sample the delicious hot chestnuts right there on the spot. The chestnut tasting is perfectly complemented by a glass of wine from the neighbouring Valtellina.
The excursion is rounded off with lunch at a restaurant in Brusio, featuring an autumnal three-course menu.
