«Historische Körperbilder und Heilversuche mit Pflanzen»

The "Phytologia", a herbal manuscript created around 1770 and recently edited by the Engadine physician Padruot Ludwig, forms the starting point for an examination of the basic features of medicine that was still strongly traditional at the end of the 18th century. Based on this source, the cultural scientist Ursula Brunold-Bigler and the physician Cornelia Caduff Oswald talk about the herbal medicinal treasure of that time, about the theoretical foundations of remedy discovery and about the various forms of application. It is also about ideas about the human body at the time – such as the relationship between the heart and the brain, the role of the stomach and possible connections between medical concepts and the creation of the witch image.

The event is organised by the Association of Women Academics, Graubünden Section, and will be held in German.
