Event Valposchiavo
Sconfini: Giornata a Cavaione
Description
sConfines - CULTURAL COUNTERBALANCE FESTIVAL.
Cavaione, a small Graubünden village in Val Poschiavo overlooking Valtellina, holds a unique record: it is the last territory to become part of Switzerland. After its inhabitants had been neither Swiss nor Italian for decades, in 1874 first the Rhaetian government and then the federal parliament decided to regularize the situation to naturalize the Cavaionese en bloc.
The small settlement, perched 1,200 meters above sea level and reachable by road only since the late 1960s, has experienced a series of nationality changes without its inhabitants moving a meter.
On Saturday, April 25 as part of sConfini - Festival of Cultural Smuggling, people will reach Cavaione to relive its interesting history of shifting borders.
