Alp de la Piazza

The activity of sheep farming in Val Grono has very ancient origins: we can already find historical notes around 1500. In ancient times, this building represented the main alp of the Municipality of Grono, it was called Alpe Piazza - Caurit - Portola; The alp was managed with the Boggia system (until 1860 and then passed to the rental system at the municipal competition). All families residing in the Municipality could enjoy the fallow land with their livestock. The harvest was divided among the families based on the number of animals present and their respective owners. The pastoralism system was nomadic in style. The first stop was here, at Alpe Piazza and then moved with the transhumance to Caurit and Portola.

After years of planning and work, we are pleased to be able to host you in this enchanting structure.

In the kitchen cabinets and cabinets you will find everything you need for cooking and cleaning. Salt, pepper, some spices and coffee are also available. It is not guaranteed that there will be food available, so plan to bring it with you. At the moment the refuge does not have hot water! Tap water is drinkable!

Inside the first cupboard in the corridor/under the stairs there are some provisions and drinks for a fee (see price list), a first aid pharmacy, T-shirts and caps, the cash register for cash payment, coupons and the QR code for payment via Twint.
