Details
Description
Day 1: After a short descent from the Oberalp Pass to Alp MIlez, we put on our skins and follow the markings to the Maighels hut. With the sun on our faces, we make easy progress far into the Val Maighels, sometimes with steeper, sometimes with longer flat sections. It's a stretch until we can climb up to the Maighels glacier at the height of the Piz Alpetta. We gain height in regular hairpin bends, our destination, Piz Borel, is right in front of us. We head for the saddle on the far left and make a ski depot. Now we cross the rocky and partly airy ridge to the summit. At the summit cross, an all-round panorama awaits us with Ticino peaks to the south and views as far as the Oberalp Pass and the Maighelshütte to the north.
The descent over the snow-covered glacier is a dream. Unfortunately, the valley floor is so flat that we have to put on our skins again as far as the Maighelshütte. We end the day with a cozy hut snack, fine food and good conversation.
Day 2: We're not in such a hurry, as the ascent to Piz Cavradi is not particularly challenging, which suits us well after the long tour the day before. At the top, on the broad summit, we enjoy the view of the Surselva before swinging down into the north-facing hollow and later over the broad ridge to Tschamut.
A train leaves Tschamut every hour to return to the Oberalp Pass.
