Description
Take one last look at the magnificent mountain panorama, as you will not get this close to the Bernina massif on the next stages.
Those who want a quieter day can take the gondola down to the valley; others descend the same way to Lej da Diavolezza and then follow the ski slope to the valley station of the Diavolezza cable car. From the valley station, the path leads over the pass road and a short section of the road before joining an alpine path. Down over the bridge and into Val da Fain, following the alpine path. It is not uncommon to hear a marmot whistle, and the plant life in this valley is also special. After about half an hour, the path forks left and climbs steeply in zigzags up to the rocks of Piz Albris. For the last section, surefootedness and a head for heights are musts, and then the wide plateau of Fuorcla Pischa opens up with numerous cairns and many small lakes. This area is home to one of the largest ibex colonies in the Alps. With some luck and a good eye, the king of the Alps can be spotted among the rocks. After crossing Fuorcla Pischa, the path branches left down to Lej Languard. A rest can certainly be planned at the beautifully located mountain lake. Then continue out the Val Languard to the mountain station of the Alp Languard chairlift, past numerous marmot burrows, and it is not uncommon to see the animals frolicking on the meadow. At Alp Languard, the chairlift awaits to conveniently take you down to Pontresina. Those who wish can also descend on foot to the village in just under an hour.
