Description

The Stelserberg is a winter jewel accessible by public transport high above the valley floor. From the final stop Mottis, the trail, which is marked with pink wooden poles, leads over lovely terrain towards Berghaus am See (only open in summer). After a view of the snow-covered Stelsersee, the trail runs with a moderate gradient over a saddle to «Gafäll», the highest point of this tour. The panorama is breathtaking! From the Vilan over the Schesaplana, Kirchlispitzen, Schweizertor, Drusenfluh and on the other side the Fideriser Heuberge, Calanda,... This is followed by a leisurely descent across snowfields to Alp Valpun. From Valpun you descend into the reed and forest areas above Aschüel and soon reach the rolled winter hiking trail (wild rest zone, trail do not leave!). From Aschüel it finally goes down to St. Antönien Platz.

Geheimtipp

Before the start, stop at Berghaus Mottis (winter season start on 30 December, open Friday to Sunday from 09.00 to 17.30) and try the homemade nut peaks.

If you want to climb a little more altitude, start at the post bus stop "Hof de Planis" and climb via Nigglisch Wis and Lazärra towards Stelserberg (not marked). At Pilidarscha you reach the marked trail.

Sicherheitshinweis

The marked snowshoe trails lead into the unsecured winter terrain. It is up to each tourer to fully equip themselves and inform themselves about the snow and avalanche conditions before the tour.

The time indication is a guideline in good conditions for reasonably experienced tourers. Times for snowshoe tours can vary greatly depending on conditions, equipment and condition. Allow enough time.

This tour description and the marking in the terrain do not represent a tour recommendation. Each inspection decision is the sole responsibility of the individual tourer. An inspection in poor visibility conditions (fog, snowfall, etc.) or in the event of an increased risk of avalanches is not recommended.

Ausrüstung

Well-functioning snowshoes, poles with winter plates, sturdy shoes, winter clothing. In winter, the wind can severely reduce the perceived temperature: winter gloves, hat, thermos bottle, etc. don't forget.

It is recommended to carry complete winter touring equipment including avalanche transceivers on the marked snowshoe trails of Pany and St. Antönien as well as generally on all tours in open alpine terrain.
