Description

Stelserberg is a winter jewel accessible by public transport high above the valley floor. From the last stop Mottis, the trail, marked with pink wooden stakes, leads over gentle terrain towards the mountain lodge by the lake (open only in summer). After a view of the snow-covered Stelsersee, the trail runs with moderate ascent over a saddle to "Gafäll", the highest point of this route. The panorama is breathtaking! From Vilan over Schesaplana, Kirchlispitzen, Schweizertor, Drusenfluh and on the other side the Fideriser Heuberge, Calanda,... Then follows a comfortable descent across snowfields to Alp Valpun. From Valpun you descend into the reed and forest areas above Aschüel and soon reach the groomed winter hiking trail (wildlife sanctuary zone, do not leave the trail!). From Aschüel it finally goes down to St. Antönien Platz.

Hidden Gem

Those who want to gain a bit more altitude start at the post bus stop "Hof de Planis" and climb via Nigglisch Wis and Lazärra towards Stelserberg (not marked). At Pilidarscha, you reach the marked trail.

Safety Note

The marked snowshoe trails lead into unsecured winter terrain. It is left to each tour participant to fully equip themselves and to inform themselves about snow and avalanche conditions before the tour.

The time indication is a guideline under good conditions for reasonably experienced tour participants. Times for snowshoe tours can vary greatly depending on conditions, equipment, and fitness. Plan enough time.

This tour description and the markings in the terrain do not constitute a tour recommendation. Every decision to proceed is the sole responsibility of the individual participant. It is advised against continuing in poor visibility conditions (fog, snowfall, etc.) or in increased avalanche danger.

Equipment

Well-functioning snowshoes, poles with winter baskets, good footwear, winter-appropriate clothing. The wind can significantly lower the perceived temperature in winter: do not forget winter gloves, hat, thermos bottle, etc.

Carrying a complete winter touring equipment including avalanche transceiver is recommended on the marked snowshoe trails from Pany and St. Antönien as well as generally on all tours in open alpine terrain.
