Details
Description
From the Schwänzelegg mountain station (1778 m above sea level) it goes briefly downhill to the signposted start of the loop. You climb a small wooded ridge, turn right along the winter hiking trail, and then use a short climbing section on the shared track again. Shortly before Alp Wiesli, the snowshoe trail branches off southwards towards Alp Rona. The view towards Calanda and Surselva is impressive. After a short flat section, it goes left up through a small valley to reach the highest point of the tour, Hohsäss (1824 m above sea level), after about 80 meters of elevation gain. Then the route first leads along a crest through the open forest, followed primarily downhill until you reach the forest edge. Now you follow the winter hiking trails of the municipality Furna to the Danusa chairlift, where the tour concludes at the Schwänzelegg mountain house on the sunny terrace.
Hidden Gem
Opportunity to stop at the Schwänzelegg mountain hut with a wonderful terrace at Danusa.
The route can also be started from Furna (starting at the Ronabord or Danusa parking lots, toll road).
Safety Note
The marked snowshoe tour leads into unsecured winter terrain. It is up to each tour participant to fully equip themselves and to inform themselves about snow and avalanche conditions before the tour.
The time indication is a guideline under good conditions for reasonably experienced tour participants. Times for snowshoe tours can vary greatly depending on conditions, equipment, and fitness. Please allow enough time.
This description and the markings on the terrain do not constitute a recommendation to undertake the tour. Each decision to proceed is solely the responsibility of the individual tour participant. It is strongly advised not to undertake the route in poor visibility (fog, snowfall).
Equipment
Well-functioning snowshoes, poles with winter baskets, good footwear, winter-appropriate clothing. The wind can significantly lower the perceived temperature in winter: don't forget winter gloves, a hat, thermos bottle, etc.!
Carrying a complete winter touring equipment including avalanche transceiver is recommended on the marked snowshoe trail as well as generally on all tours in open alpine terrain.
