Description
Leave the hustle and bustle behind and experience the untouched winter landscape above Arosa – the Prätschalp snowshoe trail is perfect for this. First, you walk through the forest along the cross-country ski trails, going beyond the tree line. Several times on the way, a unique view opens onto the long Schanfigg valley and the mountain landscape of Arosa. At the Prätschalp, the turning point of the route, you have done about half: in summer, around 100 cows are pastured here by farmers from Chur. In winter, the place offers a chance for a break and refreshment. Then it goes up again towards Upper Prätschsee. Nearby the lake is Guisanplatz. General Henri Guisan (1874-1960) attended an August 1st celebration at this spot during World War II. A memorial plaque on site commemorates this historic event. The path gently leads downhill back to Maran, where the free local bus picks you up again.
Hidden Gem
When the moon turns the snow underfoot into a sparkling carpet, it is an indescribable experience.
