Details

Description

There has been fresh snow and we are ready to start even before the first sunbeams reach the valley floor. In the lower part of the route, up to the height of the alpine pasture of Giuv, we cross a toboggan run, then break a fresh ascent track in the still untouched snow cover. After the alpine pastures of Liets, we have to be careful not to enter the wildlife sanctuary, which extends up to Plaun Liets and Sum Fil. In regular switchbacks, we quickly gain altitude and have an increasing view of the entire valley. In the nearby ski area, the first alpine sports enthusiasts are already on their way. The mighty south face of Piz Culmatsch draws ever closer. A ruined alpine hut promises to be an ideal resting place, and we decide to end the ascent here, although the route could be extended with some more switchbacks. We do not stay too long because the south-facing slopes warm up very quickly.

Hidden Gem

With fresh snow and low temperatures, you can experience the ultimate enjoyment!

Safety Note

Exercise caution when crossing the toboggan run.

Directions

From the parking lot, we walk over the bridge and then along the toboggan run to the railway line. Here we freely choose the route across the field. At the height of the chapel in Giuv, we ascend in regular switchbacks towards the north to the alpine pastures of Liets. The Piz Culmatsch is always directly in front of us. From Liets, we are to the left of a wildlife sanctuary. The descent follows the ascent route.
