Description

From Alp Grüm station, ascend towards the Belvedere Hotel. From its terrace, a spectacular view opens up of the Palü glacier to the west, the Bergamasque Alps to the south, and Piz dal Teo, Vetta Sperella, and Sassalbo to the east.

A comfortable mule track leads to Poz dal Drago. From here, take the path on the right that immerses into the larch forest of Val da Pila.

Here it's worth making a small detour to Lagh da l’Ombra (1995 m), a beautiful alpine lake hidden among the trees. Allow an extra half hour for the detour compared to the indicated hiking time.

From the lake, ascend again, rejoining the previously left path and continue descending along Val da Pila, a narrow valley nestled in a peaceful area for the wildlife of Campasc. Looking carefully at the scree above, you might see chamois moving among the rocks.

A nice path gently descends alongside the Acqua da Pila stream. You pass under the imposing viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway, cross the village of Cavaglia, and reach the Rhaetian Railway station.

Before catching the train again, we recommend making a stop at the Glacier Garden to see the extraordinary Giant's Kettles and the new route through the Cavaglia Gorge.

Hidden Gem

Alp Grüm can only be reached by train or on foot.

Alternative trail if you prefer a less frequented route compared to the Alp Grüm - Stablini – Cavaglia trail, which is popular with many hikers and bikers.

It is worth making a detour to Lagh da l’Ombra.

In Cavaglia, you can visit the Glacier Garden. Also not to be missed is a trip to the Cavaglia Gorge, descending into the gorge to admire the caves carved into the rock.
