Alp Grüm - Cavaglia (via Val da Pila)

From the Alp Grüm station, climb up to the Hotel Belvedere. From its terrace there is a spectacular view of the Palü glacier to the west, the Bernese Alps to the south and the Piz dal Teo, the Vetta Sperella and the Sassalbo to the east.

A comfortable mule track leads to Poz dal Drago. From here, take the path on the right that plunges into the larch forest of Val da Pila.

Here it is worth making a small detour to the Lagh da l'Ombra (1995 m), a beautiful alpine lake hidden between the trees. For the detour, you should plan half an hour in addition to the specified hiking time.

From the lake, you climb again, follow the previously abandoned path and continue the descent through the Val da Pila, a narrow valley immersed in a quiet zone for the wildlife of the Campasc. If you look closely, you can see ibexes moving between the rocks on the stones above.

A beautiful path descends gently next to the Acqua da Pila stream. You pass the imposing viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway, cross the village of Cavaglia and reach the station of the Rhaetian Railway.

Before taking the train back, we recommend a stop in the Glacier Garden to visit the extraordinary giant hollows and the new path through the Cavaglia Gorge.

Alp Grüm can only be reached by train or on foot.

Alternative path for those who prefer a less frequented route than the Alp Grüm - Stablini - Cavaglia path, used by many hikers and mountain bikers.

It is worth making a detour to the Lagh da l'Ombra.

In Cavaglia, a visit to the Glacier Garden is possible. Also worth seeing is an excursion to the Cavaglia gorge, descending into the gorge to admire the caves carved into the rock.
