Description

This walk from Ilanz to Castrisch is suitable for families. Castrisch is known for its historic village center. Until 2007, the church housed the largest weekly roost colony of greater horseshoe bats in Switzerland. Today, however, the bats live in the church of Sagogn.

Safety Note

Do not start the hike in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar approaches during the hike, you should turn back in time.

Equipment

Good hiking shoes with a good tread or trekking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket/sun protection), drink, possibly food, possibly hiking poles.

Public Transport

From Chur, Ilanz station is easily accessible with a scenic trip through the Rhine Gorge. The hike can be shortened as desired using the Rhaetian Railway. The exact connections can be found on the SBB website: www.sbb.ch/

Ilanz is accessible via route 19 from both Chur and Disentis/Mustér.

Parking

There is a large paid parking lot directly at Ilanz station. Another smaller paid parking lot is available at Castrisch station.
