Description
Start the adventure in charming Bever at 1,708 meters, where traditional Engadine architecture forms the authentic backdrop for the route. A special highlight is the Beverin, the first river in Switzerland to receive the label «Gewässerperle PLUS». This award was developed by WWF and is reserved for untouched rivers that are in no way affected by humans – a true rarity, as less than 4% of Swiss waters are still in a natural state.
The path into Val Bever begins when you ride downhill from Bever train station, turn left after the RhB underpass, and turn left again at the schoolhouse. From here, a well-developed route continues moderately uphill with two or three steeper sections up to Alp Suvretta at 2,145 meters. The route alternates harmoniously between natural paths, asphalt sections, and short forest road stretches, providing variety under your wheels.
The trail is technically uncomplicated and therefore suitable for less experienced mountain bikers. However, the steady climb offers excellent endurance training and makes the route a rewarding sporting experience. Along the way, breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks await you as you ride through fragrant forests and past blooming alpine meadows. Important to note: pedestrians also use this route, so mutual respect is expected.
Once at the top, you will be rewarded with the authentic alpine atmosphere of Alp Suvretta, where you can fully enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery. The return trip along the same route offers wonderful views again – this time downhill – and is manageable even for less practiced riders thanks to the moderate gradients. Allow about 1.5 hours of pure riding time for the way up to Alp Suvretta and experience one of the finest bike routes in Upper Engadine.
