Blicke in Raum und Zeit, Sumvitg

Within a few decades of the 20th century, the way of life and economy in the Alpine region have changed significantly. Traditional knowledge, which has been valid for a long time, has lost its importance, values have been redeployed, new opportunities and challenges have opened up. As part of the "Views into Space and Time" project, the aim is to use the example of Surselva communities, initially in Sumvitg, Vals and Vrin, to bring the cultural heritage and crafts of that time as well as everyday life closer to today's generations. The aim of the interactive project is to save this knowledge from being forgotten. For this purpose, memories of contemporary witnesses are collected on a web portal and conveyed in the landscape by means of so-called "viewpoints" in the form of event stations. The aim is to stimulate a discussion about the value of ancient knowledge in the present and future times.

The "viewpoints" are placed in public places in the municipality of Sumvitg, where there is a direct reference to the respective topic. With stories of contemporary witnesses, pictures and the web portal, the "old times" are made accessible. While only excerpts can be presented via the event stations, the detailed memories of the contemporary witnesses can be traced on the web portal in text and audio versions in German and Romansh. Arranged according to topics and keywords, the interviews are accessible along with other background information.
