Description

Within a few decades of the 20th century, the lifestyles and economies in the Alpine region have changed markedly. The traditional knowledge, which was valid for a long time, has lost importance, values have shifted, and new opportunities and challenges have arisen. As part of the project “Views in Space and Time,” the cultural heritage and crafts as well as everyday life of the past are to be brought closer to today's generations using the example of the municipalities of the Surselva, initially in Sumvitg, Vals, and Vrin. The aim of the interactive project is to preserve this knowledge from being forgotten. For this, memories of eyewitnesses are collected on a web portal and conveyed through so-called “viewpoints” in the form of event stations in the landscape. This is intended to stimulate discussion about the value of old knowledge in the present and future.

The “viewpoints” are placed in public places in the municipality of Sumvitg, where there is a direct connection to the respective topic. The “old times” are made accessible with stories from eyewitnesses, pictures, and the web portal. While only excerpts can be presented via the event stations, the detailed memories of eyewitnesses can be accessed on the web portal in text and audio versions in German and Romansh. Organized by themes and keywords, the interviews are accessible alongside further background information.
