Description
The excursion to the back of the Calfeisen valley offers a wide variety of experiences on a dead-end road with the same outward and return route. There are flat, steep, tarred, gravel and challenging sections in front of, next to and behind the Gigerwald reservoir amidst barren mountain massifs. The Walser settlement of St. Martin takes us back to the time of our ancestors. If you want to go further up at the end of the road at Alp Sardona on the alpine floor, we recommend an ascent on foot to the Sardonahütte SAC. Over a distance of 2.5 km, an altitude of 420 m has to be conquered to reach your destination at 2158 m above sea level, where you can enjoy the seclusion at the bottom of the valley basin.
You then take the same route back to Vättis.
