Description

The excursion to the back of the Calfeisen valley offers a variety of experiences on a dead-end road with the same outward and return route. There are flat, steep, paved, gravelled, and demanding sections in front of, beside, and behind the Gigerwald reservoir amid barren mountain massifs. The Walser settlement St. Martin takes us back to the time of our ancestors. Those who want to go further up at the end of the road at Alp Sardona on the alpine floor are recommended to make an ascent on foot to the Sardona SAC hut. Over 2.5 km, an altitude of 420 m must be overcome, so that at the destination at 2158 m above sea level the remoteness at the back of the valley basin can be enjoyed.
Afterwards, the same route is taken back to reach Vättis.

Hidden Gem

The cozy tavern in Sankt Martin invites you to linger with a drink or a meal.

Depending on the weather conditions, some places can become very slippery.
