Description
The striking 7 Churfirsten peaks are a natural monument of national importance and are particularly impressive to admire on a hike around them. The views of the valleys to be crossed are completely different; from Toggenburg, they appear rather gentle and green, while from the opposite side, they jut out almost vertically and jaggedly from Lake Walen below.
The tour leads through picturesque and varied landscapes and past well-known vacation resorts. From the proud Rhine between Bad Ragaz, Sargans, Buchs and the Principality of Liechtenstein, via the pre-Alpine Toggenburg with the vacation resorts of Wildhaus, Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann. The route then continues along the foot of the Churfristen chain down the valley towards Wattwil. The Ricken high plateau beckons with magnificent views towards the Linth region and Lake Zurich with the rose town of Rapperswil. Starting along the fjord-like Walensee, the route crosses almost the entire Heidiland vacation region on the other side of the Churfirsten. Opposite the Churfirsten is the popular vacation and excursion destination of Flumserberg (accessible by cable car with bicycle transport from Unterterzen). Leave the lake at Walenstadt and ride through the Seeztal valley until the striking Sargans Castle comes into view. Further ahead, the famous spa town of Bad Ragaz beckons, where a visit to the soothing thermal waters of the Tamina Therme promises pure relaxation as the crowning glory of the tour. Opposite Bad Ragaz, the wide landscape of the Bündner Herrschaft opens up with its sun-drenched slopes, known far and wide for its traditional wine-growing and the Heidorf village in Maienfeld.
