Description
The striking 7 Churfirsten are a natural monument of national significance and especially impressive to admire on a circuit. The views from the valleys to be crossed are completely different; from Toggenburg they appear rather gentle and green-covered, while from the opposite side they rise almost vertically and ruggedly out of the Walensee below.
The route leads through picturesque and diverse landscapes as well as past well-known holiday resorts. From the proud Rhine between Bad Ragaz, Sargans, Buchs, and the Principality of Liechtenstein, through the pre-alpine Toggenburg with the holiday resorts Wildhaus, Unterwasser, and Alt St. Johann. Then it continues downhill along the foot of the Churfirsten chain towards Wattwil. The Ricken high plateau offers splendid views towards the Linth area and Lake Zurich with the rose city of Rapperswil. Starting along the fjord-like Walensee, almost the entire holiday region of Heidiland is crossed on the other side of the Churfirsten. Opposite the Churfirsten lies the popular holiday and excursion destination Flumserberg (accessible by gondola lift with bike transport from Unterterzen). Near Walenstadt you leave the lake and ride through the Seez valley until the striking Sargans Castle comes into view. Further ahead, the well-known spa town of Bad Ragaz beckons, where as a crowning conclusion to the tour, a visit to the soothing thermal waters of the Tamina Therme promises pure relaxation. Opposite Bad Ragaz, the wide landscape of the Bündner Herrschaft opens up with its sun-drenched slopes, widely known for traditional wine growing and the Heidi village in Maienfeld.
