Description

From the guest information at the PostAuto stop Ftan, cumün, the route leads up to the valley station of the Ftan Pitschen chairlift, past it and the parking lot to the first junction directly above the parking lot. Here the path leads right down to Ftan Pitschen, and eastwards through the upper part of Ftan Pitschen. After the ascent from Munt Fallun to the last farm at the northeastern village end of Ftan, the route leads right at the signpost to Mot Morel and continues towards Scuol until below Nalains. The bench at the junction offers a wide view over Tarasp and to the Lower Engadine Dolomites, into the Val Plavna and the Val S-charl. Here the route branches left away from the hiking trail to Scuol, up to Nalains, the high voltage lines are passed under again. Left, or below the individual houses of Nalains, the route follows the way back to Ftan. On the return from Ftan Pitschen to Ftan Grond it is recommended to cross Ftan Pitschen. This village part offers a very well-preserved traditional village centre with venerable Engadine houses, which is why it is best included in the hike and crossed towards Ftan Grond. At the cheese dairy and the village shop the route turns right and one reaches the schoolhouse via an alley. Then you get back onto the street between the Ftan-Prui chairlift and the PostAuto stop Ftan, cumün.

Hidden Gem

On the history and the naming: Ftan was divided into two parts by a large avalanche in 1682. The large avalanche chute between Chaposch in Ftan Pitschen and Jordan in Ftan Grond is called "La Lavina" and still commemorates the disaster year today. In 1720 another large avalanche descended over the Mugliner area in Ftan Grond. The large catchment area between Mot da l'Hom and Piz Clüna is now secured, as can be seen by the numerous avalanche barriers and the protective forest above Prui.

Safety Note

The path is prepared after every snowfall. Please observe the status messages in the winter sports report. The route was rated under favorable weather conditions; the current snow and weather conditions must be considered before starting.
