This is pure Greina hiking - without shuttle buses, in one day or two days, with two hut options. As a "Zuggerli" there are sections with fewer hikers, a rock arch, dreamy Ticino settlements, and a wildly romantic rocky path at the end.

Description

The old connecting path from Olivone to Campo through the “Gola del Sosto” is the final reward on this eventful route. It starts in Graubünden, far back in the Lumnezia in the Surselva. From Vrin you first hike towards Plaun Tgirn and cross the Paravalsauns bridge. From Puzzatsch you then meet the shuttle bus travelers and take the path over the Diesrut Pass to the Greina plateau. Those who want to finish the day early take the dizzying hanging bridge to the Terrihutte. Those who want to stay overnight in Ticino already cross the entire Greina plain to the Capanna Scaletta on the first day. Shortly before the hut, on the Passo della Greina, we lead you on a somewhat more demanding route under the rock arch “Arco della Greina.” This section is marked as an “alpine hiking route” with white-blue-white colors. Those who want it easier take the path over the ridge. From the hut only the “sturdy” ones take the path over Campo to Olivone on the same day.

After a restful hut night the finale is pure pleasure. The stage from Capanna Scaletta leads through dreamy Ticino settlements like Dàigra, and finally over the old connecting path from Campo to Olivone. An ending that could hardly be more impressive.

Important: Plan your time well and allow for reserves. The indicated hiking times are WITHOUT breaks and calculated for average hikers. Very good fitness and good mountain equipment are absolutely necessary for this long route.

If the route between Plaun Tgiern and Parvalsauns is closed on the first day, we recommend taking the road.

Safety Note

In uncertain weather conditions, the route should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar approaches during the hike, you should turn back in time.

Equipment

Good hiking boots with good tread, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket), first aid kit, drink, food, possibly hiking poles.

Travel Information

This route can only be hiked in connection with public transport. Arrival by car from Chur via Flims to Ilanz station. Or from Oberalp Pass or Lukmanier Pass via Trun to Ilanz station.

Parking

The parking spaces at Ilanz station are only available for the long term to a limited extent. However, there are various parking options throughout Ilanz. Plan enough time.

The pass Diesrut is 2428 m above sea level and is also called the gateway to the Greina. The climb to Pass Diesrut is not steep, but steadily rising. From Puzzatsch you can reach it in about 2 1/2 hours.

Greina Hochebene

The Greina is one of the most beautiful and largest plateaus in Switzerland. It is about six kilometers long and one kilometer wide and lies at 2200 meters above sea level. The Greina plain connects the three valleys Val Lumnezia, Val Sumvitg and Valle di Blenio.

The idyllic Plaun Tgiern barbecue site is located about 30 minutes from Vrin, near the biotope on the road to Plaun Tgiern/Vanescha. From the barbecue site, you can continue hiking in the direction of Vanescha, Pardatsch or Parvalsauns.

Church Surselva

Church Nossadunna e Sogn Gion Battesta, Vrin

In the furthest village in Val Lumnezia, a colorful southern tower points the way to the church. The imposing building was erected at the end of the 17th century by Antonio Broggio from Roveredo in Misox. The forces are high in almost the entire church, which is an exception. It is highly probable that the chapel was built on a pre-Christian place of worship.

Chapel Surselva

Chapel Sogn Valentin, Vrin/Puzzatsch

The small chapel was consecrated in 1643 in honor of St. Bartholomew and St. Valentine. Today, only the title Sogn Valentin is mentioned.

The small chapel faces south-east and has the same layout as the Holy Trinity Chapel in Cons. It is located on an old place of worship, the powers are high and neutral and of the highest vibrational level.

The small chapel towers above the hamlet of Cons. It is an unpretentious chapel with a three-sided, recessed chancel facing north-east.

Mehrzweckhalle, Vrin

The local architect Gion A. Caminada designed the multi-purpose hall of Vrin together with the Chur engineer Jürg Conzett. The hall is located on the edge of the slope and adjoins the brick school complex.

Stiva da morts /Totenstube, Vrin

The mortuary borders on the cemetery and parish church in Vrin. The "Stiva da morts" is more than just a parlour: it offers the possibility of retreat on the one hand and communality on the other. The "Stiva" offers space for the dead and the living. With its novel sequence of rooms, the mortuary makes a change in the way death is dealt with possible in the first place.
