The cross-country ski trail connects the Isel Reservoir, snow-covered mountain pine forests, and an impressive panoramic view of the peaks. A highlight is the view of the Alteiner Waterfall and the Welschtobel, at the end of which the Aroser Rothorn towers.

Description
The Isel cross-country trail begins just below the village of Arosa and initially runs along the southern shore of the reservoir of the same name. The lake, surrounded by forest, is fed by the Furggabach, the Furggaalpbach, and the Plessur. The Plessur also flows out of the lake, which is home to trout. The trail loops through the Isel Forest, where mountain pines are the predominant tree species. The area is surrounded by the Arosa Dolomites, which originally formed from a subtropical beach.
At the Isel in Arosa, you can start preparing for the cross-country skiing season as early as November as part of the “Novemberhochs” event. This trail is also recommended even when it’s snowing.
Safety Note
Pedestrians and dogs are not allowed on the cross-country ski trail.
Directions
Public Transport
From Chur, the Rhaetian Railway runs hourly to Arosa and back. At Postplatz—just a few meters from the train station—the Iselbus is waiting to take you directly to the cross-country ski trail. You can find the bus schedule at: arosa.swiss/langlauf
Travel Information
From Chur, follow the signs to Arosa. At the entrance to the village, turn left before the gas station and follow the signs to the reservoir.
Parking
Since there are only a very limited number of parking spaces available at the reservoir, we recommend parking your car in the Ochsenbühl parking garage. It is located on the left at the village entrance, past the Sports and Convention Center. From there, it’s just under 100 meters to Postplatz (where the Iselbus departs).
