Description
From the Spleekapelle Sargans chapel, the trail leads via Sargans Castle along the wine trail to Heiligkreuz. Here it continues to the Hagerbach test gallery. A restaurant or the meeting place with a fireplace invite you to linger. The hike then continues towards Flums, with beautiful views of the valley, the Flums mountains, the Ragnatscherbach waterfall and the Churfirsten peaks. The trail then leads via Hochwiesen to the end point at Flums railroad station.
Along the way, there are 15 boards with information about the history of the region. These boards were designed by school classes to mark the 1250th anniversary. They contain interesting facts about the floods in Flums and Mels, Pfäfers Abbey, the Rhaeto-Romanic language, place and field names, Nidberg Castle, the county of Sargans, Bishop Tello's will, Mels Abbey, Gonzenberg Mine and the town of Sargans.
The trail can also be started at Flums railroad station and ends at the Spleekapelle chapel in Sargans. From there, it is only a five-minute walk to the train station. The entire hike is on a south-facing slope and therefore offers good weather conditions.
